ANNAPOLIS, Md., June 22 (DC Times Online) — Maryland election officials removed Ian Andre Roberts from the state voter rolls on June 2, according to state election records, after he had been on the rolls for more than a decade and had been registered twice.

The case has become a point of criticism for Republican lawmakers who say it raises questions about how Maryland maintains its voter list. Republican Delegate Matt Morgan, who chairs the Maryland House Freedom Caucus, said the episode shows why “Marylanders have lost faith in our elections.”

State voter-registration forms show Roberts checked the citizenship box and signed under penalty of perjury twice, according to the reporting. The records also show that absentee ballots were mailed to him.

Maryland elections administrator Jared DeMarinis warned in January against “improper cancellation,” a phrase used for removing eligible voters by mistake.

The reporting did not show whether Roberts cast a ballot in Maryland. The case has drawn continued scrutiny from the Maryland Freedom Caucus and Republican lawmakers in Congress.
