NAPA, Calif., July 5 (Sonoma Times) — Napa County sheriff’s deputies say Paul Pelosi, 86, could face a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge after a July 3 crash in Yountville that left a legally parked car damaged, and the case has been referred to prosecutors for review.
Deputies responded about 2:30 p.m. to the 6700 block of Yount Street, where investigators said a brown convertible driven by Pelosi struck the parked car and left the scene, according to the sheriff’s office statement reported by The Associated Press.
After deputies located Pelosi, he told investigators he had hit something but was not aware of what he struck, the office said. Authorities said no injuries were reported, and a preliminary alcohol screen registered 0.00, ruling out driving under the influence.
The sheriff’s office said no arrest was made, calling that common for the offense under California misdemeanor arrest law, and said the matter was sent to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office. A California DMV re-evaluation referral was also expected.
Pelosi was the subject of a separate Napa County case in 2022, when the district attorney’s office said it filed misdemeanor DUI-with-injury charges after a May 28 collision in the county.
