ALBERTA, CANADA, June 27 (Billings News Online) — A viral video from a trail near Mount Engadine Lodge in Alberta shows a woman walking her dog as a grizzly bear follows and repeatedly charges, underscoring basic safety steps for travelers in bear country.

The footage shows the woman backing away slowly and trying to keep the bear at a distance rather than running. No one was hurt, according to reports.

Alberta Forestry and Parks identified the area near Mount Engadine Lodge on Rummel Lake Trail in Spray Lakes Provincial Park, Kananaskis Country, as the location of the encounter.

Bear-safety guidance from the National Park Service says running from a surprised bear can trigger a predatory reaction, and the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee says bears can outrun people over short distances. Both advise people to respond to the animal’s behavior, back away slowly when possible and use bear spray when appropriate.
