HANOVER, Pa., July 3 (Our New York News) — The FDA has upgraded a recall of certain Utz-made Zapp’s and Dirty potato chips to its highest risk level, meaning the agency says exposure to the products could cause serious health problems.
The Class I designation appeared in the FDA’s latest weekly enforcement report. The agency uses that label for recalls in which there is a reasonable probability that use of, or exposure to, a violative product could cause serious adverse health consequences or death.
Utz first recalled the chips in May after saying a seasoning ingredient made with dry milk powder from a third party may have been contaminated with salmonella. In its recall notice, the company said no salmonella had been found in its products and that no illnesses had been reported to the company at that time.
Utz said the recall was issued “from an abundance of caution” and told consumers not to eat the chips and to discard any affected products.
