WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell, 84, was admitted to a Washington, D.C., hospital June 14 and is receiving “excellent care,” his office said, though it did not disclose why he was hospitalized.

David Popp, McConnell’s spokesperson, said the Kentucky senator was admitted that morning. McConnell’s office did not identify the hospital or provide additional details about his condition.

Popp said June 16 that McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

Earlier this year, McConnell checked himself into a local hospital on the night of Feb. 2 after experiencing “flu-like symptoms,” according to Popp.

He was discharged Feb. 10. After that hospitalization, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
