BAKERSFIELD, Calif., June 25 (Our California Times) — The Bureau of Land Management has approved updated oil and gas management plans for California’s Central Coast, allowing the agency to resume leasing on federal public lands across the region.

The agency said the decision is based on a supplemental environmental impact statement and fulfills a December 2022 settlement agreement. BLM also said the update is consistent with Secretary’s Order 3418, which supports federal efforts to expand domestic energy opportunities.

The decision covers public lands in Alameda, Contra Costa, Monterey, San Benito, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties, along with portions of Fresno, Merced and San Joaquin counties.

Separate BLM planning documents also have included San Luis Obispo County in a Bakersfield Field Office review area. The agency did not identify any specific parcels for immediate leasing or say when new lease sales could begin.
